Bounce U Fundraiser

Join us for a play date at Bounce U in Oaks during conference week. Your kids get to play with their friends and expend all that pent up winter energy, you get a morning out of the house and Playschool earns money. Last year, this was a great fundraiser for us.
When: Thursday, March 5th 10am-12pm
Where: Bounce U Oaks
Cost: $10 per child with Bounce U generously donating $5 back to Playschool
Other Info:  Children under 2 are free
You may bring in outside food (snacks)
Socks are mandatory

Auction Information

Auction planning is fully underway so you’ll be seeing a lot of communication about various topics in the coming weeks. I want to give you a couple bits of information on Auction donations.
1. Most of you have received an email from the parent in your classroom in charge of inside donations. If not, you’ll be seeing something soon. There is one clarification I would like to make. One of the options given is to “Buy Something.” We would like to request that if you are choose this option to just contribute cash. Chances are that whatever you purchase will not go for full value in the online auction so it would be better for us to receive the cash.
2. If you have any outside donations currently in your possession, please put them in Lia Dogra’s folder in the Orange Room. Please send me (Karen Dogra kski1414@yahoo.com) an email with what you put in the folder so I can be sure I’ve received it. We would like to start logging what we have into the website so we can avoid the big rush at the end. Also, we want to be sure we award the free ticket(s) to those who get to $250 (or $500) first.
3. Be sure to keep some extra donation letters in your car to ask for a donation when you’re out and about. I have found that businesses are very willing to give. If you took a card and there are additional businesses in close proximity but not on your card, feel free to hit them up too.

Chocolate Cup Winners!

If you missed February’s League meeting you missed some delicious fun! We had a tasty array of entries in our chocolate bake off ranging from savory to sweet. Our big winner was Melissa Lennon with her Dark Chocolate Olive Oil Cake. Runners up included Carrie Venezia’s Chocolate Log and Allegra Henry’s Chocolate Lava Cake and Lindsey Parson’s Chocolate Tart!

Winter Weather School Closing Information

 If it is necessary to close Playschool due to snow or icy road conditions, or other weather related issues, families have the following options for accessing school closure information:

Check KYW News Radio’s website at www.kyw1060.com for 1352.

Call KYW’s recorded school closing phone line at (215) 925-1060.

Sign up for the KYW School Closing Text & Telephone Alerts Network.

  • This 24-hour service will provide text messages to your cell phone, PDA and similar devices, as well as email messages to your computer or PDA.   You can register online at www.kyw1060.com.

Listen to KYW News Radio 1060 AM for our number (1352).

Check the websites or watch the following local TV stations: ABC, CBS, NBC, & Fox. (On TV our school name will scroll on the bottom of the TV screen.)

Due to Internet challenges experienced in past years, we will NOT be sending e-mail notifications or making Internet postings on our website or on Facebook regarding school closures.

We appreciate your understanding and patience regarding last-minute closures. Forecasts are not always accurate and if we find road travel has become treacherous just before our school day begins, we may have to make a decision to close after families have already begun their drive to school. Please consider registering with KYW for text/telephone alerts (see above) so you have access to last-minute closing notifications while en route to Playschool.

If school has already opened for the day and a decision is made to close early due to road conditions or other issues, families will be notified by telephone to pick up their children.

Parent Teacher Conferences and Book Fair

PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES   
Reminder: School will be closed March 4, 5, 6 for conferences; please plan ahead for child care during your conference time (due to the Book Fair which will be taking place in the hallway there will not be anywhere for children or caregivers to wait).  The online conference sign-ups will be ready by the end of next week.

CRITICAL SUB SHORTAGE!!!

CRITICAL SUB SHORTAGE
  • When our Sub Coordinator (Katie Brannan) calls you for a last-minute sub job, please consider helping out for the morning.  We are frequently short-handed in the classrooms due to the number of sub requests during cold/flu season.
  • Can you think of a friend/neighbor/relative who might be interested in helping out once in awhile, or even on a weekly basis? Please give us their contact information!
  • As always, please do not call for a sub except in cases of illness. Please arrange appointments, meetings, etc. on a day other than your assigned Helper Day (except for a planned trip). Thank you for your cooperation!
  • Trades are a great solution for a planned absence such as a trip. You work on someone else’s Helper Day and they work on your day; no money exchanges hands because it is an even trade.  Trades can be arranged several ways; you can come in 2 days one week (your day + the other person’s day) and they come in for 2 days during the week you will be out. Please notify Katie Brannan of any trades.

Family Donations Due 4/1/2014

By now you should have been contacted by your classroom representative for Spring Auction. Each year we ask that every family donate an item to our largest fundraiser, Spring Auction. The online auction begins on April 13. The Auction volunteers need to enter all items into an online auction system. What is Spring Auction?

Spring Auction is the social event of the year at Charlestown Playhouse. This event begins with an online auction of goods donated by parents and outside vendors to benefit the school, providing essential funds for operating costs and scholarships. The end of the online auction culminates in a fantastic party that features a live auction of the most coveted bidding lots. Spring Auction is when the Playschool community comes together to celebrate the hard work and dedication of its members who work every day toward the greater good of this unique school. A+ Rewards for using your BONUSCARD

Charlestown Playhouse is registered with Giant’s A+ Rewards Program. Last year we made over $1000 with this program. The 2013/2014 program begins on October 6, 2013 and runs through March 22, 2014.  We are currently collecting BONUSCARD numbers for registration starting September 1st.  Please email Karen Dogra at kski1414@yahoo.com to submit your BONUSCARD number. 

After September 1st, you can go online and register your BONUSCARD at https://www.giantfoodstores.com/aplus/ with Playschool ID# 05601.  Tell your friends!  Tell your neighbors!  For more information, click here.

Target Take Care of Education Program

Do you have a Target Red Card (either Credit, Debit or Visa)? If not, you can sign up for either card as another way for Playschool to earn money!
 
Here’s how it works: Visit Target.com/tcoe or call 1-800-316-6142 to designate our school (School ID: 153106), then use your REDcard whenever you shop. When you use your REDcard (Target Credit Card, Target Debit Card or Target Visa Credit Card) to save 5% on your purchases everyday and Target will donate up to 1% of your purchases to our school!
